On a national level, MOAA (The Military Officers Association of America) has achieved much to maintain and improve benefits for retired, active duty, surviving spouses, Reservists and National Guard personnel.

8 Reasons for Joining MOAA and a local Chapter:

To inculcate and stimulate love of our Country and its Flag;
To defend the honor, integrity and supremacy of our national government and the Constitution of the United States;
To advocate military forces adequate to the defense of our country;
To foster the integrity and prestige of uniformed service;
To foster fraternal relations between all branches of the various services from which our members are to be drawn;
To further the education of children of service personnel;
To aid active and retired personnel of the various services from which our members are to be drawn, and their dependents and survivors, in every proper and legitimate manner;
To present their rights and interests when service matters are under consideration.

The St. Petersburg Area Chapter, MOAA (a member of the FloridaCouncil of Chapters) represents our interests at local and state level.

I. The Chapter will provide you with:

a. Association with fellow officers, warrant officers & surviving spouses

b. Yearly roster of members & chapter information

c. Monthly award winning newsletter, Officers Call

d. Monthly luncheon: social, announcements, & program

e. Member Support, such as:

1.  Assistance to recent surviving spouse

2.  Contact with & visits to ill & incapacitated members

3.  Career transition (TOPS–The Officer Placement Service)

f. For members w/ computers, our Military Message Center provides:

1.  Chapter messages and alerts

2.  Florida’s Council of Chapters weekly distribution

3.  MOAA’s weekly legislative update and alerts

 

II. You will have the opportunity to:

a. Volunteer for:

1.  Bay Pines VA Center patient support

2.  MacDill AFB hospital and pharmacies

3.  Our uniformed Guard of Honor

b. Participate in Chapter operations:

1.  Attend monthly Executive Committee meetings

2.  Join a committee (such as Programs, Visitation, Membership, Personal Affairs, Data Base, Officers Call staff, etc.)

3.  Participate in parades & veterans activities

4.  Help raise funds for our Scholarship Fund, local projects, etc.

5.  Support local Jr. ROTC programs

6.  Submit articles to Officers Call

7.  Network with individuals of similar backgrounds & interests

 

III. Chapter members must be members of national MOAA which:

a. Lobbies Congress & the Administration for all veterans, surviving spouses, active duty service persons, Reservists & National Guard

b. Circulates its monthly glossy magazine, Military Officer

c.  Disseminates information of local interest

d.  The Chapter encourages Life Memberships in MOAA; they are the most efficient way to join and maintain your membership, and, upon your death, a Life Membership is automatically transferred to your spouse

IV.  Initial Dues--New Members

a.  Initial dues for officers and former officers is $25.00, which includes the cost of your name tag. That pays for the first year, on a calendar basis--   January through December..

b.  Initial dues for surviving spouses is $20.00, which is also on a calendar basis.

c.  Should you desire a name tag for your spouse, the cost is an additional $5.00

 

V.  Annual Dues Thereafter

a.  Annual dues (January through December) for years after the initial year are $20.00 for officers and former officers.

b.  Annual dues (January through December) for years after the initial year are $15.00 for surviving spouses.
